Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has said it continues with its various development projects intended to extend and update the efficiency of its infrastructure so as to keep pace with the growth of demand for its services and to realise its aspirations for optimising these services.

As part of this relentless pursuit, Dewa announced the progress of works at Al Mamzar Beach Substation with the capacity of 132/400 KV.

The total cost of the project is around Dh642 million, and it includes the works of supplying, installing and testing and commissioning. The project also comprises laying cables with capacity of 400 KV between Mishref, Al Nahda and Al Mamzar, according to Dewa's emailed press release.

"This operation is unprecedented, as it is the first time to use and connect the technology of high voltage 400 KV cables through underground tunnels in the Emirate of Dubai," said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dewa.

"Dewa is working on maximising the efficiency of its grids to meet the growth of demand for its services. Consequently, it is proceeding with implementing its vital projects especially in the field of infrastructure in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai which aim to consolidate Dubai's leading position and role as a world economic and financial hub."

Al Tayer said the project aims to support the operations of power transmission in Deira. This project encompasses setting up a power Substation with capacity of 132/400 KV which contains four transformers with capacity of 505 Megavolt Ampere (MVA) each. Dewa is laying 400 KV cables with a total length of 19.5 Km; 11.5 Km to connect Mishref and Al Mamzar, and 8 Km cables to connect Al Nahda and Al Mamzar in order to enhance the efficiency of power transmission grid in Deira. The Substation will be connected with other Substations at Warsan, Al Nahda and Mishref.
