Al Quoz residents living in the dark

Residents in Al Quoz Industrial Area 4 have been staying without street lights for years.

Now safety concerns have forced them totake the matter up with relevant authorituies.

The absence of streetlights in a residential area behind Al Khail Mall has left  many residents insecure, reports 'Khaleej Times'.

A resident of building behind Emirates Post, who has been staying there for the past three years, said the route she takes to walk to and from the bus stop, located in front of Al Khail mall, is shrouded in darkness once the sun sets so much so she was "almost run over by a car at least twice in that area because they couldn’t see me crossing in the dark".

Earlier, before Al Khail Mall was built,it was a lot safer and quieter. But now street lights are essential, say many. Yet another resident says "labourers and bachelors sitting on the footpath in the dark..." and she finds it unsafe for women and children.

Street lights would make their lives a lot easier.

However, one resident says it might be fine in the morning but at night it is dangerous.
