Amputated finger rejoined after mid-sea chopper rescue

Air Wing of RAK Police has responded quickly to a distress call from a vessel in regional waters to help a worker whose finger got amputated aboard the vessel.

Upon direct follow-up from Major General Sheikh Taleb bin Saqr Al Qasimi, General Commander of Ras Al Khaimah Police, the RAK Police chopper was immediately dispatched and landed on the surface of vessel. It airlifted the injured sailor to Saqr Hospital in RAK, where the medical team conducted an urgent surgery that successfully reinstated the amputated finger.

Major Saeed Al Shahyari, branch director of security and operations at the Air Wing of RAK Police, said that the rescue team section moved immediately based on the coordinates of the vessel, adding that the distress call was received at 01pm. He added that through coordination with the Coast Guard team and the operation room of RAK Police, the ship was located and the Air Wing team arrived within minutes. It provided first aid to the Asian worker before airlifting him to the nearest hospital.
