The year 2014 brought with it yet another world record for Dubai, with the emirate breaking the Guinness World Record for the ‘Largest Firework Display’ across the whole of The Palm Jumeirah and the islands of The World.

The world record, by the way, was made within the first minute of the 6-minute long performance. And it was enjoyed by an audience numbering tens of millions across the world as the performance was streamed live online as well as on TV.

Nestled between Atlantis The Palm and Sofitel was Ground Zero, which went down in history as Dubai smashed yet another Guinness World Record. The World Record breaking display covered a distance of over 99.4km of shoreline and featured hundreds of thousands of colourful fireworks and a series of scenes designed exclusively for the show and set to a musical soundtrack designed for the event.

Dubai played host to millions of tourists and residents from across other emirates and the neighbouring GCC countries as the world watched in awe the world record being set when 400,000 fireworks were set off a little after midnight on December 31.

The world record attempt received the official seal minutes after the event, when Alistair Richards, Global President of Guinness World Records, handed over the record certificate to a proud Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman, DP World and Major-General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Dubai Police Deputy Commander-in-Chief, who received the same on behalf of the Dubai Government.

The world record was officially recognised at a ceremony in Atlantis, The Palm – a few minutes after the show was complete.
