Dubai Press Club, the General Secretariat of the Arab Journalism Award, today unveiled the names of the three journalists shortlisted for the 12th edition of the award. The list of nominees features 33 media-persons from around the Arab world.

Following the conclusion of the upcoming 12th edition of the Arab Media Forum, winners of the AJA 2013 will be announced during a special gala ceremony at the Grand Hyatt in Dubai on 15 May under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai

Muna Bu Samra, Director of the Arab Journalism Award, said: “Competition was fierce in this year’s edition of the award which received more than 4,000 quality submissions that reflected a high sense of professionalism, creativity and dedication. I believe that all shortlisted nominees are winners and well deserve appreciation for their efforts.”

Humanitarian Journalism, which was added to this year’s edition of the AJA award categories with special support from the International Humanitarian City (IHC) – Dubai, received the second highest rate of submissions after the Young Journalist category, noted Bu Samra. “The General Secretariat and the Arab Journalism Award constantly follow technology updates, trends and shifts that affect journalism as a profession. This is clearly visible in the noticeable increase of entries after adopting electronic submission,” she added.

The Cultural Journalism category was excluded from this year’s edition due to non-eligibility of submitted entries.
