An Asian fisherman has been missing in the sea for three days during a trip by fishermen in Ras Al khaimah in violation of government warnings not to go to the sea because of bad weather, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.

Fishermen who went to the sea three days ago and returned to port discovered that one of their colleagues has not returned, the Sharjah-based Arabic language daily Alkhaleej said, citing fishing sources in RAK.

“The fishermen went to the police station and reported their friend is missing,” it said, adding that the fishing trip took place around 24 miles off the coast.

The paper said high seas caused by the present storm sweeping the region had so far prevented coast guard from conducting a search operation to find the missing man, who it did not identify.

“The sources said the man went missing during the fishing trip and was discovered missing when his colleagues returned to port…they said the fishermen went ahead with the trip despite warnings by coast guard and other official parties against going to the sea at this time.”
