Drivers committed around 2.26 million traffic offences in Dubai in the first seven months of 2013, a whopping average of 6,000 offences a day.

Speeding remained the main driving offence in the Gulf’s business hub, with nearly 700,000 tickets issued for drivers, accounting for around 63 per cent of the total road offences.

Police data published in the Arabic language daily Al Khaleej showed more than 90 per cent of accidents during that period were a result of speeding.

The offences also involved 8,733 cases of jumping red signal in the first seven months of 2013 besides more than 58,000 illegal parking offences.

Around 261,595 tickets were issued in the presence of drivers.
