Abu Dhabi municipality, which is carrying out the campaign, was quoted as saying by Khaleej Times that only those buildings are being evicted where more than three people occupy a single room. “Within the last 24 hours, two buildings on Electra Street occupied by more than 1,600 bachelors were cleared,” it said.
It said these two buildings were evacuated on Wednesday night and Thursday morning. The first 7-storey building had more than 500 residents and the other 10-storey building was occupied by more than 1,000 single and married bachelors.
A number of buildings in the Tourist Club Area and around Najda Street and Electra Street were evicted this month due to occupancy laws violations. However, the municipality department could not confirm the number of buildings and people evicted recently, it added.
