Bike shops to be moved out of residential areas

Abu Dhabi Police issued 3,038 motorbikes driving licence in 2010, compared to 3,168 last year in Abu Dhabi, according to 'Al Khaleej' newspaper.

Abu Dhabi Police confirmed the motorcycle driving tests are conducted as per internationally approved standards.

Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi Municipality plans to transfer shops trading in motorbikes and its spare parts and accessories (except agencies) to the suburbs of the Abu Dhabi, to preserve the ppearance of the city, according to Mohammed Khalifa Al Mazroui, Director-General of municipality.

Al Mazroui urged the owners of these shops to abide by the terms of licences and not repair motorcycles in residential areas. Workshops that do not comply with with the terms of the municipality will face penalties inckuding closure and taken to court.

Abu Dhabi Municipality has provided fixed lanes along the Corniche Road for motorbike drivers. Al Mazroui urged drivers to adhere to these tracks for their own safety.
