Buggy on The Boulevard: Now you can cycle around Downtown Dubai

It’s bright blue with three wheels. And you can hire one in the evenings to go around the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard.

Called “Buggy on the BVLD”, the two-seater cycle rickshaws are the latest addition to various transportation means availble for tourists who want to see the myriad wonders in the $20-billion Downtown Dubai master development.

The ride charges aren’t fixed and depend on the length of your journey.

“You'll see the team cycling up & down Mohammed bin Rashid Blvd every evening. Price is dependent on how long you ride, just ask,” according to @MyDowntownDubai, the official twitter account for Downtown Dubai.

The three-wheeler, originated in Japan around 1868, and is quite popular in Asia, the United States and Europe. It is called pedicab in the Philippines, cyclo in Cambodia and Vietnam and cycle rickshaw in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

In April, Emirates 24|7 reported that Boulevard Bus Tour service had been introduced, allowing sightseeing tour of the boulevard that houses iconic attractions such as Burj Khalifa, the tallest tower in the world, Burj Plaza, Burj Park, Dubai Mall, etc.

Tickets for the air-conditioned bus are priced at Dh10 (Dh5 each for ticket and fee) with the bus timings being 10 am to 10 pm daily.

Emaar Properties had already launched a push-bike system, in the Boulevard. Docking stations are located along the 3.5 kilometre Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, The Dubai Mall/Burj Khalifa metro station, Emaar Square, Burj Park, Burj Plaza, and next to The Dubai Mall. The push-bikes can be rented for 30 minutes up to 24 hours.
