A Briton was accused of physically assaulting and abusing three employees of an IT company when they visited his company to collect a due payment.
The man allegedly owed the IT company Dh10,000.

The Dubai Court of Misdemeanour heard that the injuries caused to HA, Indian aged 30, SK, a Filipino aged 27and SS, a Sri Lanka aged 39, in the assault, were grievous enough to require 20 days of treatment and recuperation.

In fact, the accused KD, 54, had already been sentenced, in absentia, in the case to one month in jail and a Dh3,000 fine on June 10. He had failed to appear in court at the time because he was away on leave.

However, when he was arrested upon his arrival at the airport he challenged the sentence and hence, the case is now being reheard.

In a written defence in Arabic, submitted to the court, KD stated that he is not guilty and that the three shouted at him and hence, he has asked them to leave the company as he was in a meeting.

According to the chargesheet filed on February 2, KD had failed to pay for IT equipment and services provided.

HA told the prosecution that they had dealt with the accused’s company for three years.

As there was a disagreement with the accountant of KD’s company regarding the said amount, HA decided to wait until the KD finished his meeting. “After keeping us waiting for four hours he came out and shouted at us, pushed us forcibly out of his company and abused us,” HA told the prosecution.

The other two plaintiffs repeated the same testimony.

Mohammed Yousef, an eye witness, told the prosecution that he was in KD’s company to collect a payment around the same time.

He testified that he saw KD beat the three visitors and abuse them. He added that KD also asked him to get out when he asked for his payment.

A verdict will be delivered this week.
