AAN, a 32-year old Pakistani technician employed to Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum allegedly stole 5,000 rounds of ammunition of 22mm from the Jebel Ali Shooting club.

AAN who worked as a munitions caretaker also stole another 1,000 bullets of 9mm. The total worth of the ammunitions were Dh7,000.

Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum is an Olympic sport shooter and member of the Dubai royal family.

Emirati air force pilot OMS, 32, is also accused of criminal complicity and abetting for the crime.

Officials in the club discovered that 6,000 bullets were missing after auditing the stocks. They checked the CCTV cameras and saw that AAN who is authorised to get into the store was seen pulling a bag out of the store.

AAN was arrested from his accommodation. Initially he denied the accusation but later admitted to the theft and testified selling 4,000 rounds to pilot OMS.

After searching his car 2,000 bullets were confiscated.

Pilot OMS denied the charges but said that he received a call from AAN asking for financial help. OSM gave AAN Dh500 but denied receiving any bullets from him on that day.

OSM testified that after couple of days AAN came to his house and gave him a bag and told him that it’s a gift in return to his help so OMS gave him another Dh1,000.

OMS gave his nephew the bullets and asked him to keep it in his custody. OMS admitted to possessing them for shooting purpose and returned the 4,000 bullets.

The case is now adjourned until February 19.
