CDA renovates old homes in Dubai

The Community Development Authority (CDA) has launched “Your home… our home”, an initiative aimed at renovating a group of old homes owned by families that include retired , elderly and people with disabilities living amongst them.

 The initiative which will be implemented over multiple phases is part of CDA’s efforts to provide an excellent network of social services in Dubai and enhance communication with all individuals.

The project’s main objective is to support and help the families of these old homes who consider maintenance a financial burden by providing them with free renovations, while raising awareness about voluntary work and motivating other members of society to participate.

Nine CDA employees have volunteered in the project, including Khaled Al Kamda, Director General of the Community Development Authority, and other executive directors. The project has attracted 24 volunteers registered with CDA’s Volunteering Section.

The project’s preparatory phase started with visits to 12 homes by a team that also included social workers from CDA to evaluate the damages, and the repairs required at each home, including painting works, interior fittings and the provision of furniture and furnishings. The social workers evaluated the current status of families living in these houses to identify their needs and take the necessary measures to address them.

Khaled Kamda said: “This project comes in line with CDA’s mission to launch initiatives that provide services tailored towards addressing the needs of community members. It also emphasises the role of CDA as a leading model in community work, and promoting a culture of volunteerism and social solidarity among different segments of the UAE society, which has always been known for its leading position in humanitarian and charitable work."

The first phase of the project includes the renovation and maintenance of the old homes in Jumeirah and Umm - Suqueim, while the second phase will take care of internal damages of homes and furnish them. All the logistical preparations for the first phase have been completed.

CDA partners in the project are Wade Adams, EMCON, Mamarotti Catering, Royal Concrete Contracting, Jotun Paints as well as the main support from businessman Mohammed Al Sayah.

Homeowners expressed their sincere for this initiative, and praised the government’s  keenness to reach out to them and other vulnerable members of the community.
