A three-year-old Emirati girl whose head was crushed by the collapse of a massive iron door in Sharjah is in stable condition and out of danger but she remains at the intensive care unit awaiting more surgeries.

Doctors treating Anoud Abdul Rahman described her recovery as “a return to life” as she was admitted to Al-Qassimi Hospital last week in critical condition after a house door fell on her head, causing severe hemorrhage and fractures in the skull, the semi official daily Alittihad reported on Saturday.

“She is now in a stable condition and receiving treatment….she needs two more surgeries….her recovery was like a return to life,” the paper said, quoting Dr Satesh Krishna, a neurosurgeon who had led a team to operate on the girl when she was brought to the hospital.

He said one surgery would be in the neck to restore normal breathing and the other involves reconstruction of fractured bones in the skull.

Dr Krishna said Anoud could be out of hospital within two months but that she would require post-operation physiotherapy treatment on the grounds that her brain injury would affect movement of her limbs.

Anoud’s father Abdul Rahman said she was gradually recovering and has regained consciousness, adding that he hoped to take her abroad for treatment.

Anoud was playing with four other little girls at her cousin’s house in Rahmaniya area in Sharjah last week when the door collapsed on them.

The other four suffered from light injuries while Anoud was rushed to hospital with broken skull and bleeding.

Al Qassimi hospital deputy director Dr Saqr Al Mualla had said the girl’s skull was crushed by the strong impact of the door’s collapse.
