Child falls from Abu Dhabi apartment window

A Bangladeshi child, aged five, fell out of the window of a first floor apartment, but miraculously survived the mishap.

The boy’s family live in a building on Hamdan Street, Abu Dhabi and he was rushed to the hospital after the fall. His condition is stable, according to a media statement by the Ministry of Interior.

The Operations Room in Abu Dhabi Police received a call from the child's father just after midnight informing them of what had happened.

The father said he was just returning home when he saw his son poke his head out of the apartment on the first floor.

Seconds later, the boy fell out of what was bedroom window.

The child's mother was in the kitchen at the time of the incident and the father rushed to boy to hospital.
Major General Nasser Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior; Chairman of the Higher Committee for Child Protection at the Ministry of the Interior, expressed regret at the incident and stressed the importance of the role of parents in making sure homes and places where children play are safe.

Major General Al Nuaimi gave examples of previous incidents which led to the deaths of children.

A 4-year-old child sustained burns on different parts of his body after the family home caught fire in Ras Al Khaimah.

A vehicle was stolen with a month-old-baby left inside the car in Sharjah.

A five-year-child fell from the window of an apartment on the third floor in the Khalidiya area in Abu Dhabi, succumbing to his injuries.

Major General Al Nuaimi cited these as examples of how better prevention and care could have prevented these tragedies.

He stated that the competent judicial authorities determine the responsibility of parents about harm done to their children, and Article (394) of the Federal Penal Code can come into play.
