A five-year-old girl who sneaked alone to the Palm Jumeirah beach was rescued just moments before she drowned and swallowed by the sea — thanks to her brothers.
The unidentified girl was playing with her little brothers in the back garden of their villa on the beach when she sneaked out and headed for the water on her own on Monday.
Apparently lacking swimming skills, she fell into the water and started to swallow the salty water before she struggled in vain to get out.
“Her brothers noticed her absence and ran to the guards, who rushed to the sea and rescued the girl in the last moment,” the Arabic language daily Emarat Alyoum said.
Quoting Lt Colonel Abdullah Al Mazbood, director of the Ports Police, it said an ambulance arrived minutes later and resuscitated the girl.
“She was in a serious condition after swallowing a large amount of sea water. Her condition later stabilised,” the paper said.
