A cleaner allegedly stole a safe containing cash, gold and jewellery while cleaning a house of an Indian family, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
HAT, Bangladeshi, 31, is accused by the Prosecution of committing the theft while other four identified as NIA, 40, worker, SAH, 35, farmer, JHL, 36, salesman, JHF, 35, worker, have been charged for possessing jewellery from suspicious sources.
Bhakly Konal Randiria, 31, housewife, testified that on May 14, at around 12,30pm she left the house to visit her friend and returned at around 5pm to discover that the safe kept in the wardrobe was missing.
“HAT cleaned the flat before I left to my friend. I called my husband who informed the police,” she testified.
Her husband Konal Randiria, 33, a shop manager, testified that the family suspected the cleaner who worked in the house.
Police arrested HAT who confessed to the accusation that he had given the jewellery to his friends.
The rest were arrested and admitted to receiving jewellery from HAT. Police confiscated the jewellery from the accommodation of the third and fourth accused in Fujairah.
The court adjourned the case to November 20.
