A Sri Lankan cleaner stole four laptops and attempted to steal other 18 from Dubai Ruler’s Engineer’s Office (EO) of Dh40,000 value, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
After stealing four laptops, two of which ADF handed over to a shop for formatting, he hid 18 lap tops in an attempt to steal them.
Majed Mohammed, 38, head of security section, testified that he was informed about the missing 22 laptops of which 19 were HP and the remaining three Toshiba of a total value Dh40,000.
On investigation, the cleaner confessed to stealing the laptops, retrieved 18 from the hiding place and brought the other four laptops the next day.
Sergeant Yousef Sulamian testified that following a theft reported by the EO, he investigated and the cleaner confessed to the crime. Besides the 18 laptops he had hidden, two were in his house and the other two in a computer shop.
The saleswoman of Al Basheq Computer Nowij Baliyat testified that in July 2011 the accused brought two laptops for formatting. “I received the laptops from him, but he did not show up again. Then he came with the police.
The saleswoman recognised the accused when he was shown to her in a parade. ADF confessed to the crime and the court adjourned the case for verdict until November 22.
