Cloudy, chance of thunderstorms over UAE

Internal eastern and southern areas of the UAE can expect rainy weather to continue over the next couple of days, with possibilities of thunderstorms to bring slight relief from rising mercury levels in those areas.

However, the rest of the country will experience temperatures in its mid-40s, with highs of 48 degrees Celsius in some parts.

Speaking to Emirates 24|7, a spokesperson with the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology, UAE, elaborated on the strange weather pattern of late, saying: “Last week’s out of season rainy conditions were brought on by wayward monsoon clouds that had drifted over from eastern Pakistan and the Gulf of Oman.

“This week’s rain has been caused by easterly moisture that has travelled up from the Arabian Sea with touring clouds.”

With the current weather pattern, the NCMS spokesperson predicted rainy weather to possibly continue until Tuesday.

“With Saturday and Sunday bringing rain to parts of Abu Dhabi, there are chances of rain to continue until Tuesday, with possibilities of thunderstorms today over the internal eastern areas of the UAE, along with the southern parts,” he added.

Parts of Fujairah and Hatta in the east, along with the Liwa region of Abu Dhabi in the south can expect rainy patches over the next two days.

According to the governmental authority, Saturday saw heavy rainfall of 4.9mm over the Al Khiznah area, with rain lashing in the same parts today, along with sandy weather and low-visibility on roads.

The NCMS also revealed that the organisation is continuing with its cloud seeding programme to enhance the rainy weather.

Unfortunately, the hot weather cannot be improved.

“There won’t be an dip in temperatures, with the coastal areas experiencing weather of 45-45 degrees Celsius, with internal areas seeing highs of 48 degrees,” the NCMS rep added. “Plus, with average winds, the seas should be moderate compared to yesterday’s rough weather. Hence, no warning has been issued at the time.”
