A Briton who assaulted three employees, including two women, of an IT supply company who went to collect payments due, have been fined Dhs5,000 by a Dubai court.

The Dubai Misdemeanour Court that had on June 10 awarded in absentia a month's jail term and Dhs3,000 fine to the 54-year-old British national KD, who owns a firm, had accepted objections raised by him.

After removing the jail term during a re-hearing, the court fined the man Dhs4000 for physical assault and Dh1000 for abusing the three victims.

Based on the in absentia verdict, KD was arrested at the airport upon his return from leave. But he had challenged the sentence.

During the earlier hearing, KD had denied the charges and pleaded not guilty.

He had then claimed the three shouted at hom and he just asked them to leave his office premises as they were interrupting him in a meeting.

The court has now increased the fine amount and removed the jail term awarded earlier.

He was accused of assaulting and abusing HA, a 30-year-old Indian woman sales manager, SK, a 27-year-old Filipina sales staff, and SS a 39-year-old Sri Lankan driver of the IT company.

They had met KD to claim a Dh10,000 payment that was overdue by two months.

In her testimony, HA said her company was dealing with KD's company for three years and she was directly handling purchases and services. Her colleagues stood by her.

An eye witness, Mohammed Yousef, testified before the prosecution that KD had in fact beaten the three visitors. He had gone there at around 12.30pm on the said day on official work.
