Company wins damages for three dead workers

A company based in Abu Dhabi has won a case forcing an insurance firm to pay Dh600,000 in compensation for the relatives of three workers who were killed in a fire during work, press reports said on Sunday.

Employers of the three victims paid compensation just after the accident took place in July 2008 and later demanded the sum from the insurance company according to an agreement signed between them, Emirat Alyoum said.

A court earlier ordered the insurance firm to pay damages but the sentence was later overturned by an appeals court, prompting the employers to appeal again.

“The court of cassation ordered the insurance firm to pay compensation of Dh600,000 for the victims after it found that insurance documents provide coverage for all accidents and do not exclude fire accidents,” the paper said without identifying the two companies.
