The UAE’s top court ordered a contracting firm in Ajman to pay Dh200,000 diya (blood money) to the relatives of a worker who was killed after falling off a scaffold at a building under constriction.

The Federal Supreme Court (FSC) upheld a previous court sentence charging the company’s foreman and two co-owners of failing to provide necessary safety systems for the worker, leading to his death.

It fined the foreman Dh1,000 and ordered the owners to pay diya for the victim’s relatives for their failure to protect him during work.

“The court decided they failed to provide him with necessary protection measures, including a safety belt, a helmet and other tools,” the Arabic language daily Alittihad said.
