The dead body of an Indian man killed when the cooking gas cylinder he was handling burst continues to remain in the mortuary for lack of travel papers.

P K Haris, 35 was working in a Sharjah based gas company illegally. He was killed on June 12 in Kuwaiti hospital, almost three weeks after he sustained 65 per cent burn injuries in a gas cylinder blast.

Abdul Rahman one of Harris’s relatives, said. “He was initially admitted to Kuwaiti hospital in Sharjah. After initial treatment he was then shifted to a hospital in Ras al Khaima. But his situation worsened and he was brought back to Kuwaiti hospital. He even speaking well to all of us until two days before he died,” said Rahman.

Harris from Kasargod in Kerala, India, is married to two women and is survived by four children. “We have informed his family back home. Ever since they have beeen waiting for his body. Unfortunately we are working towards preparing an out-pass to get his body released,” he added.

Although it is an accident at worksite and his family deserves a compensation he may not be entitled to any benefits as he worked in the country illegally.

“His situation is really unfortunate. We are trying to co-ordinate with some social institutions to get him some help,” added Rahman.
