Rangers at Environment and Natural Reserves arrested 14 infiltrators for illegally poaching crabs and other crustaceans at the Al Qurm Mangrove Reserve in Kalba, Sharjah.
The East Asian men had allegedly sneaked into the reserve, ignoring about 18 fence warnings put up in both Arabic and English across the site.
They were caught on cameras in an ambush set up by rangers of the reserve, the Coast Guard and Kalba Police, said Hana Saif Al-Suwaidi, Chairman of Environment and Natural Reserves
The infiltrators who had not been permitted by the agency to enter the reserve violated Article 64 of Federal Law No. 24 for 1999 on protecting the environment and the Sharjah Executive Council's resolution No. 9 for 2012 .
A jail term of 4 months to one year and a fine of Dh10,000 is imposed on violators by the law for damaging wildlife.
