Emirates General Petroleum Corporation (Emarat) petrol stations in Dubai will start accepting credit card payment for fuel purchase from Sunday, Emirates 24|7 can reveal.

Customers will have to pay Dh2 as charge for the service.

A petrol station attendant said: “We are accepting cards from Sunday. The customer will have to pay Dh2 as service charge when buying fuel through a credit card.”

Only Visa and MasterCard are currently being accepted.

An Eppco station attendant said that they had the credit card machines, but were not yet accepting cards.

In March 2012, the Supreme Committee for Consumer Protection had approved the request of oil companies to allow customers to make fuel purchases using a credit card, but that a charge of Dh2 as commission will be levied on the value of each such transaction.

Emirates National Oil Company’s (Enoc) and Emirates Petroleum Product Company (Eppco) have already announced self-service refuelling options for motorists in some of its stations.
