In a joint sting operation by Dubai and Sharjah Police, two suspects were nabbed while attempting to sell drugs.

A GCC national and an Iranian are accused of smuggling 29kg opium into the country.

According to a top police official, one of the suspects sold the drug to an undercover cop in front of his five children.

Major-General Abdul Jalil Mahdi Al Asmawi, Deputy Head of the UAE Higher Committee for Combating Drugs, said it was discovered that the GCC national was a drug dealer and had entered the UAE along with his family to ward off suspicion about his illegal activities.

“His five children were in the car looking at him,” said Maj-Gen Asmawi and added that he was being monitored for quiet sometime.

He was in regular contact with a 71-year-old repeat offender residing abroad, he added.

After being nabbed, the GCC national led police to his farm in Dibba - along the border with Oman - from where cops confiscated 4kg heroin, 100 narcotic pills and 9kg hashish.

In the same case, a 43-year-old Asian, residing in Al Ain, has been arrested after he acted as a middleman between the undercover cop and the suspect.

Maj-Gen Asmawi expressed concern about the suspect's kids being exposed to such immoral activities and urged parents to bring up children with the right values.
