Detainees threaten arson if not shifted to new cells
Three detainees allegedly left a letter on a police officer’s desk threatening to set fire to the Ports Police Station if they were not transferred to another detention centre.
The prosecution accused HIM, 38, who does not hold identification documents and two Emiratis IAQ, 19, jobless, and NAS, 37, student, of threatening in writing to commit felony.
First Corportal Yehia Omar testified that on April 21, he entered his office and found on his desk a letter submitted by the three accused saying that they will cause problems or set fire to the detention if they were not transferred to another centre.
“I took the letter and submitted it to the director of the station,” he said.
Major Mohammed Bilal testified that he was assigned by the director of the station to investigate the letter’s issue.
“One of the detainees managed to send the letter to Corporal Yehia asking him to refer it to the director of the station,” he testified.
The three detainees confessed to signing the letter as they were willing to be transferred to another detention.
The court adjourned the case until December 1.
