Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has awarded a tender to supply, extend and launch a 27km major water transmission network.

"Dewa is working to improve the efficiency of its operations, and increase water flow to meet the growing demand for water in various parts of Dubai and support the sustainable development of the emirate of total cost Dh185 million," said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dewa.

The project includes the extension of glass reinforced epoxy (GRE) main water pipelines of 1,200 millimetres in diameter and 27km in length, to increase water flow along the Jebel Ali-Al Hebab Road to meet the increasing needs of water to Nakhli, Al Aweer, Al Qudra, and Dubai International Endurance City, in addition to projects along Al Ain road.

“This also includes remote monitoring and control systems to effectively control the major water transmission networks all the time through automatic valves that can be remote-controlled from the control centre, to easily detect breakdowns and quickly fix them to reduce water losses in the network," he added.

"The project takes 28 months as scheduled, and it will be closely supervised to ensure that it is completed on time."
