Dewa completes Al Barsha, Jebel Ali substations

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) continues its development projects to upgrade the power capacity of its infrastructure and to keep pace with the growth of demand for its services and meet its aspirations to optimise these services so as to achieve efficiency and reliability.

As part of this relentless pursuit, the works, which include supplying, installing, testing and commissioning of the two substations with the capacity of 400/132 KV at Al Barsha and Jebel Ali Horse Race, are about to be completed. The total cost of the project is up to Dhs764m.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dewa, stated, "Dewa's efforts come within the framework of enhancing the efficiency of power grids to meet the growth on demand for Dewa's services and pursuit with the implementation of its vital projects especially in the field of infrastructure. These efforts are in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which aim to consolidate Dubai's leading position in the region and enhancing its role as a world economic and financial pole."

He said this project aims basically to uplift the electricity distribution capacity at Al Barsha and Jebel Ali Horse Race. This project comprises of two Substations with a capacity of 400/132 KV, and each of them contains 4 transformers with a capacity of 505 MVA. Al Barsha Substation will be connected to both L and D Stations, while Jebel Ali Horse Race Substation will be connected to G Station. The first substation at Al Barsha will serve Al Barsha area, whereas the second one will serve Nad Al Sheba, Al Tayer added.

"Dubai Electricity and Water Authority is in pursuit for its march towards sustainable development, while adopting the best international technologies as well as adhering to achieving the highest standards of safety and environmental commitment so as to raise production and operational capacity of electricity grids. It is estimated that works in Al Barsha Substation will be completed next March 2011, while Jebel Ali Horse Race Substation will be finished next October 2011."
