Led by its vision to become a sustainable world-class utility, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has signed a new contract to supply, extend and activate a new 132 kV underground transmission cable network to redistribute the electricity load.

It further builds on Dewa’s commitment to contribute effectively to the social, economic and environmental development of the emirate, by providing uninterrupted and stable electricity and water services to achieve the vision of Dubai.

"Dewa is moving forward in the implementation of vital projects, especially 132 kV electricity transmission networks. This is to improve the efficiency of our networks, meet the growth and demand for services, especially in the field of infrastructure, and enhance access to these services to the highest levels of efficiency and reliability," said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dewa.

"The project includes three phases with the first phase focused on modifying loads in 132 kV electricity transmission networks between Al Quoz and D Station in Jebel Ali. The second phase involves transferring cable loads between Bu Kadra station and the 400/132 kV substation at the Jebel Ali race course.

“The last phase is the extension of new 132 KV cables, to transfer electricity to the network of Jebel Ali Port. The length of the new cable network is 274 km, and the scope of work includes supply, extension and connecting to existing networks.

“The project also includes adding voltage correction devices, master keys, and Gas-Insulated Substations in accordance with the new requirements of our new networks," added Al Tayer.

Al Tayer said the project costs Dh300m and it is expected to be completed by December 2014.

"Dewa works on strengthening the economic development of the Emirate with a focus on environmental sustainability, by providing uninterrupted and stable electricity and water services to achieve the vision of Dubai," concluded Al Tayer.
