Within the framework of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)'s efforts to establish the foundations of environmental sustainability, support sustainable development in the Dubai and raise awareness about the importance of energy and water conservation, especially during the summer, DEWA launched ‘Let's make this summer green’ for the second year running.

The campaign was launched via social media channels, as well as other audio-visual media channels.

The campaign runs from the beginning of May, until the end of August.

It focuses on several guidelines including rationalisation of consumption during the Holy Month of Ramadan, reducing power consumption during peak hours (12 noon to 6 pm), setting the AC to 24C, tips for when away on summer vacation, fixing water leaks, and installing drip irrigation systems.

DEWA’s Conservation Team organises lectures and field visits to government organisations and departments, private companies, malls, and union centres

During the Holy Month of Ramadan, DEWA also organises events and workshops, in cooperation with the General Authority of Islamic Affairs & Endowment (GAIAE), the Rashid Bin Mohammed Ramadan Gathering and the Dubai International Holy Quran Award.

DEWA also cooperates with the Dubai Police through the Madfaa Al Iftar programme, which includes competitions related to rationalisation of power consumption.

“The campaign is part of our ongoing efforts to establish the foundations of environmental sustainability and support the sustainable development of Dubai by using electricity, water, and natural resources sensibly, to ensure their sustainability for generations to come.

We urge everyone to adopt a conscious and responsible lifestyle, especially during summer time.

These efforts contribute to achieving the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to promote sustainable development, and reduce Dubai’s carbon footprint according to the Dubai Plan 2021, which aims to transform Dubai into a smart city whose environmental elements are clean, healthy and sustainable, and DEWA’s vision to become a sustainable innovative world class utility,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“This summer initiative is a continuation of the series of initiatives, programmes and awareness activities launched by DEWA throughout the year.

DEWA managed to reduce water usage over the past eight years through its various campaigns, and managed to save 1.54 gigawatts (GW) of electricity, and 6.2 billion imperial gallons of water, saving AED 957 million, and limiting carbon dioxide emissions by over 813,000 tonnes, which is equivalent to the cultivation of 944,000 trees.

The great impact of these savings is presented in support of the sustainable development process in Dubai, and the UAE in general,” added Al Tayer.

“DEWA strives to encourage all members of society to adopt rational use as part of daily life. This is achieved by encouraging customers to reduce their electricity consumption.

Through this campaign, we urge everyone to adopt a conscious and responsible lifestyle, and raise awareness about adopting environmentally friendly practices through simple steps, that enable everyone to make a difference and be part of the positive change; making this behaviour an integral part of our lifestyle.

We are encouraged by the active and positive participation of our consumers, in all sectors, to respond effectively to the advice and guidance provided to them by DEWA,” said Khawla Al Mehairi, Vice President of Marketing & Corporate Communications at DEWA.

DEWA urges its customers to follow certain guidelines, to rationalise their consumption of water and electricity.

The guideline is published on DEWA’s website www.dewa.gov.ae and on DEWA’s smart app.
