Dh1 million in traffic fines; lady driver wants psychiatrist

A 31-year-old Arab woman who hit the headlines by accumulating traffic offences worth nearly Dh1 million in Ras Al Khaimah and other emirates has asked to see a psychiatrist after apparently running out of excuses to avert paying.

But a traffic court in the northern emirate, where she committed offences worth around Dh36,000, rejected her request and ordered her to pay Dh20,000 after reducing the fines. In case she fails to pay, the woman will be jailed one day for every Dh100.

The court has charged the woman with reckless driving, exceeding the speed limit, failure to renew her driving licence for four years and refusal to pay fines.

Identified as RNA, the woman was arrested by the RAK police two months ago and police records showed her Nissan Altima had piled up 1,380 road offences in the UAE with a total value of Dh1.027 million.

They included 27 offences in RAK and the others were committed mostly in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. One offence was recorded in Oman.
