Total costs of projects the Ministry of Public Works is supervising within the Dh9.6 billion federal investment programme for the 2013 public budget currently stands at Dh877 million, Minister Dr Abdullah Al Nuaimi has said.

Dr Al Nuaimi said financial allocations were earmarked in coordination with the concerned ministries with the prime aim of achieving inspirations of the federal government, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and its strategic priorities for providing better public services in education, health and security in consistence with the UAE Vision 2021.

He added that the ministry is currently carrying out a number of federal road and infrastructure projects under the President's development initiative in the Eastern part of the country.

He was speaking at a press conference he held to unveil his ministry's strategy.

Works, he continued, were going on to add a lane in each direction on the Diba-Khor Fakkan road and maintain and upgrade the Massafi-Fujairah road.

A contract will be awarded next month for the Dh170 million Al Ittihad-Al Tawyeen Road.

He noted that roads in the UAE were among the best in five countries of the world in terms of quality and sustainability according to a study by an international engineering company on the status of federal roads.

Public works

Speaking about other projects, the minister said his ministry was building police stations in emirates of Sharjah, Ajman and Fujairah and civil defence centres in Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.

He noted that the Dh160 million GHQ of Abu Dhabi Police was one of the major projects the ministry had ever executed for the Ministry of Interior and was expected to be delivered next July.

In education, the minister said 10 state-of-the-art schools in different levels will be established.

A number of sports complexes will be established and construction works are expected to begin in emirates of Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah by early next year.

In regards to the health sector, the minister said apart from the completed Ras Al Khaimah Specialty Hospital under the President's initiative and other projects, works were progressing as schedule on a Dh390m gynecology and obstetrics hospital in Sharjah. The hospital will be delivered during the third quarter of the year.

''The Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital in Dubai, a Dh500m health facility built 54,000 with the capacity of 272 beds, is being designed and built on the world's best standards of green architecture for psychiatric health facilities, the first to be adopted in the region,'' the minister said.

The design concept, he said, aims to provide a peaceful and serene environment for both patients and visitors that respects and reflects the culture and values of its clients while relieving the stigma often associated with mental health afflictions.
