Sharjah will fine Dh2,000 for not dumping the waste properly in the desert.

According to Arabic daily Al Bayan, this decision was taken in The Executive Council of the Emirate of Sharjah meeting held on Tuesday morning in order to preserve environment and safeguard natural beauty of the emirate.

Residents who don’t dispose waste properly and leave it in the open will be penalised, the Council said.

The Executive Council meeting was held in the office of His Highness The Ruler of Sharjah and was headed by Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Sharjah.

Hana Al Suwaidi, Head of Sharjah Environment & Protected Areas Authority, said the decision was taken to protect environment because people visit desert for camping but leave the area without disposing the waste.

People, she added, don’t recognise the volume of waste they leave behind or damage they cause to the nature.

She said authority provides camps for barbecuing and places for families at nominal prices.
