Dh20,000 per session fortune-telling scam in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Police have arrested an Arab national in fortune-telling scam, Al Khaleej newspaper has reported.

According to the newspaper the imposter targetted wealthy people – charging Dh20,000 per session.

Colonel Dr Rashid Mohammad Borshid, Head of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Abu Dhabi Police, said the police received information about a 44-year-old man, identified as AM and also working as a clerk in a charity in the country.

According to the investigation, the fraudster swindled people by claiming to be able to contact ‘jinn’ and using magic to improve their lives.

He added that the police set up a sting, using a female officer to meet the accused.

She asked him to use magic to help her solve her frequent disputes with her husband.

The man asked her to pay Dh20,000 as charges.

The police then arrested the man after he took the money and found him with crafts and tools used for witchcraft and sorcery.
