Dh270m Deyaar case to hear defence argument

The Dubai Misdemeanor Court has adjourned the Deyaar 2 case in which nine employees were accused of embezzling $74m, until October 13, for the defence lawyer of the fourth accused to submit his argument.

In a previous session, a memorandum from the Dubai Financial Control Department commenting on the report prepared by Deyaar’s auditor was submitted to the court.

This is a sub-case of the main Deyaar corruption and embezzlement charge in which a former minister and chairman of Deyaar, MK, former CEO, ZS, and GM, an Indian fugitive, are accused.

 

Cleaners steals 17 mobile phones from hypermarket

An Indian cleaner, who works at a hypermarket in Dubai, confessed to stealing 17 mobile phones worth Dh31,466.

On April 1 and 3, AKM,35, sneaked several times into the storage area of the hypermarket where he works at Ibn Battuta Mall. Each time he got in, the accused switched off the lights and suspended the security system and hid mobile phones in garbage bags.

Thomas A, 38, Security Director at the hypermarket, testified before the prosecution that AKM made a written confession when he was confronted with the theft.

Abdullah Salem, 23, policeman, also testified about AKM's confession.

Court has been adjourned for verdict. 

 

Verdict in robbery case on October 4
The Dubai Criminal Court will deliver a verdict on October 4 in a case where two men are accused of stealing a woman’s money and mobile phone.

HAJ, 21, a jobless Iranian, had on December 25, 2009, is charged with committing adultery with ABW, 30, an Indonesian cook. Then he asked her to allow his friend to sleep with her as well.

ABW, who is also in custody, told police that the two then stole her money and mobile phone after forcing her to have sex with them.

HAJ confessed before prosecution that he stole Dh200 from her bag and his friend stolen the mobile.

IFM who does not hold identification documents denied stealing the mobile before the court.
