In the first nine months last year, 5,117 employees resigned from their jobs in the federal ministries, local departments and the private sector, according to 'Al Ittihad' newspaper.

Abdul Rahman Al Baker, Deputy Director-General of pensions and social insurance, said about Dh326.4 million have been given as end-of-service dues to resignees. This is cumbersome to the authority's budget, he added.

No person who resigned had spent 20 years in service, he said.

According to the department statistics, the private sector leads in the number of resignations. About 2,111 private sector employees resigned - contributing about 41.2 per cent of the total number of resignations during the period in the country.

The local departments came in second recording 1,835 resignations at 35.8 per cent. while the remaining percentage is divided almost equally between the ministries by 587 resignations and 584 resignations in the institutions and federal agencies.

Among those who resigned, 61 per cent were men and 39 per cent women. Some of them worked for as less as three years and some up to 10 years.
