Dh3m heroin shipment exposes Abu Dhabi waiter, sales manager as drug traffickers

Anti-drug agencies in Dubai have arrested two men of Pakistani nationality for trying to bring 24kg of pure heroin into the emirate via sea.
The drugs, valued at Dh3 million were hidden in a container marked as household furniture.

Dubai Police, the Ministry of Interior, Abu Dhabi Police, Jebel Ali Port Authority and Dubai Customs all worked together to make the arrests and intercept the consignment.
The first accused has been identified as DS and is a 31-year old married resident of Abu Dhabi, where he works as a waiter in a restaurant.

The second accused has been identified as WXD, 35, and is a sales manager in Abu Dhabi.
Major General Abdul Jalil Alasmoa, Director, Drug Enforcement Administration in Dubai, said the police received information confirming the existence of a container with the drugs on its way to the port of Jebel Ali.

The container after arrival was allowed to pass through to its destination in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, under surveillance by a security team.
After arrest, the accused claimed that the shipment was home furnishings.

The second defendant was arrested on charges of helping the first with the truck to carry the container and assisting in unloading the shipment.
When the contents were emptied under heavy security in Cargo Village in Dubai, police found 10 boxes, wood and blankets designed with two layers. The second layer contained the heroin.

The first accused then admitted that the drug is heroin and to trying to smuggle it into the state with the intention of trafficking it.
The accused have been transferred to the Public Prosecution.
