A labour court in Abu Dhabi ordered a company to pay Dh449,000 compensation to an Emirati engineer after it found that he was arbitrarily sacked by the firm.

The company had hired the engineer to work at its branch in Singapore for two years and agreed to move him to Abu Dhabi when its new factory is launched in the emirate.

But the opening was delayed for business reasons, prompting the firm to keep the engineer in his job in Singapore.

He rejected the company’s decision and insisted on returning to Abu Dhabi in accordance with the job contract.

“The company refused his request and sacked him. The court decided it was an arbitrary sacking and ordered the firm to pay 449,000 compensation, including his monthly wages, unpaid leaves, a month's notice and other allowances,” the Arabic language daily 'Al Bayan' said.
