Published

A delegation headed by His Excellency Engineer Essa Al Maidoor, Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority(DHA) recently left for France, Germany and Netherlands to discuss mutual cooperation with a number of leading institutions in the field of healthcare.

Al Maidoor stressed on the importance of this tour that is in line with the DHA’s efforts to establish partnership with leading medical institutions and organizations in the world.

He said the purpose of the tour is two-fold; firstly the DHA aims to meet with leading academic institutions in these countries and collaborate with them to provide medical staff in Dubai with excellent educational opportunities; secondly the Authority aims to meet with world renowned medical institutions  to collaborate in specific areas of healthcare.

Such collaborative initiatives will not only benefit patients but also help provide an impetus to the Dubai Medical Tourism initiative.

DHA and France: Collaboration in  futuristic fields like genetic mapping.

Al Maidoor said that Dubai Health Authority and the Ministry of Health in France have been  collaborating within specific areas of healthcare over the past few months and during this tour several agreements will be signed specifically outlining areas of cooperation.

He said the collaboration looks into certain areas of interest including identification and management of infectious diseases, oncology, genetic mapping etc.

Al Maidoor highlighted that genetic mapping is a futuristic field and is essential as one can greatly identify the chance of a couple having a child with a genetic disorder such as Thalassemia.  Gene mapping can be effectively used in premarital screening as well.

The DHA delegation will visit various healthcare institutions and medical universities in France such as  the Institute of Gustave Roussy of Oncology which was established in 1926 and Necker Hospital which was established in 1778 and is  historically the first paediatric hospital in the world.
