Diapers had mushy stuff... it was narcotics

Dubai Customs inspectors at Dubai Cargo Village recently foiled two attempts to smuggle narcotics hidden inside children’s articles coming from abroad and heading towards their final destinations to an Asian and African country via Dubai.

Omar Ahmed Al Muhairi, Senior Manager of Cargo Operations at Dubai Customs the attempt was made to smuggle 1.8 kilograms of marijuana plus 268 grams of heroin.

In the first seizure, Dubai Customs Inspectors suspected a postal parcel of children’s diapers, sent from an African country and heading to Asian country through Dubai Cargo Village. It was unusually heavy in the middle of the package during passing it through the x-ray, and it was referred to the manual inspection, during which were found two bags containing dark green coloured dry herbs with seeds. It was marijuana.

The General Administration of Anti-Drug at Dubai Police was informed, and the seizures were transferred to them. The two people who were trying to receive the packages in the targeted Asian country were arrested.

In the second seizure, Dubai Customs inspectors at Dubai Cargo Village suspected another postal parcel of clothes coming from an Asian country heading to African country, and after passing it through the X-ray; a can was detected hidden in the clothes inside the parcel.

Following manual inspection, a baby powder can was found hidden in the clothes. Upon taking a sample and test, it turned out to be heroin.

The General Administration of Anti-Drug at Dubai Police was informed with the incident of the seizure, and confiscated the parcel.

Omar Ahmed Al Muhairi said: “The two Incidents reveal the deviation of the drug dealers by using kids items in transporting narcotics, highlighting that they don’t stop inventing new ways to fool customs inspectors and concerned security authorities. However, the inspectors will keep vigilant, believing in God and their capabilities, efficiency, experience and skills that acquired through training courses, modern devices and information support provided by Customs Intelligence Department.
