Driver stole Dh7.34m from his employer

A Pakistani fugitive is accused of stealing Dh7.34m from his employer and other five compatriots who possessed the stolen money, the Dubai criminal court heard.

The accused, identified as ASS, 31, fugitive, ASH, 31, ISQ, 30, HHM, 35, AKZ, 25, are all drivers and OZJ, 50,  is a working resident of Oman.

ISQ, HHM and AKZ are accused of possessing the Dh7.34m. ASH, ISQ, HHM, and OZJ are accused of offering the fugitive AAS a shelter although they know about him committed a theft.

Gulam Farooq Abdulqader, 25, Afghani, sales manager testified that on January 3, he received a call about the transfer of US$2m.

“Immediately, I headed to the exchange company and received Dh7.43m. Then I asked the driver to drive to the bank to deposit the amount and asked to wait with the money until I get permission from the bank’s manager to deposit the big amount. As I went out I did not find the car and the driver… I sought a pedestrian to call the driver since I left my mobile in the car…After several attempt he replied and told me that he will come to the parking…but he did not… I called my senior and told him about the incident… he asked me to call the police… A police patrol arrived and the policeman tried to call the driver but the later did not answer.. Police found the company’s car near the Abbra,” he testified.

Investigations lead to ASH who stays in Dibba Al Fujairah. ASH confessed to receiving the accused who has stolen his employer following his incitation. He also confessed to arranging shelter to the accused before he fled the country through Oman.

The rest accused who shared offering shelter to the accused confessed to the accusation. AKZ confessed to stealing Dh300,000 while changing the bag to the accused. As OZJ knew about the arrest of four accused, he helped Ass to flee, according to the records.

All accused confessed to the accusation except for OZJ who claimed that he did not provide shelter to ASS.

The Court adjourned the case to March 18.
