A young Emirati died while his friend suffered serious injuries in an accident on Al Dhaid-Nizwa Road in Sharjah due to excessive speed.

Sharjah Police said its Central Operations Room received a call at 12noon on Wednesday about a serious accident involving a car and a truck, resulting in casualties.

Police patrols and ambulances were rushed to the scene where they a found 21-year-old dead and his 24-year-old friend in a serious condition.

Initial investigation results blamed excessive speed for the accident as the young deceased was driving at over 180km per hour.

Driving on a single lane road, the young man was surprised by the presence of a truck at the turn. Despite his effort to avoid collision, he couldn’t control the vehicle and rammed it into the truck, resulting in death of the driver and injuries to his friend, who was admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Sharjah Police urged members of the public, especially young people, to abide by traffic rules and regulations. Parents have been asked, too, to monitor their children, advise them time and again to abide by traffic rules to avoid accidents.
