Drug addicts gave 'red water' instead of blood

Five Gulf men accused of taking drugs gave red water instead of blood to the forensic medicine department in Abu Dhabi to avert charges they had taken drugs.

A forensic doctor testifying during a trial of the five defendants told court that the samples he received were not blood but water mixed with red dye, adding that the samples were tampered with before they were sent to him.

The doctor said he informed the prosecutor who ordered taking a fresh blood sample from the defendants, adding that the new sample showed the five had taken drugs.

“The prosecutor told court that what happened is very serious and called for strict measures against those responsible for tampering with the sample,” the Arabic language daily Alkhaleej said.

It said the court adjourned hearings to Feb 24 to allow the defendants to get a lawyer and to present them to a medical committee in charge of rehabilitating drug addicts.
