Du says submarine cable cut in Suez repaired

Telecommunications provider du announced on Tuesday that the underwater cable SMW3 in Suez (Egypt), one of the two submarine cables reported to have been cut, is completely repaired.

The second cable i2i running between Chennai and Singapore may take one to two weeks for restoration, said the announcement.

Du also said that the cable operators have not yet explained why the cables were cut.

Though du had alerted its customers to a possible degradation of Internet services, it reported that quality of Internet services were not affected as immediate solution was introduced.

No remarks from customers about any effect on the Internet service were received, said du.

Du had assured the customers to take immediate action to ease the situation by re-routing the traffic over multiple alternative cable systems to reduce the impact of the cable cuts.
