Dubai bus overturns near Abu Dhabi: 3 dead

A bus carrying pilgrims from Dubai, returning from Madinah, overturned after a tyre burst killing three people and seriously injuring nine people.

There were 60 passengers of different nationalities in the bus. 44 moderately injured people were taken to Mafraq Hospital for medical treament, police confirmed.

The accident took place near Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi police said.

All aboard the bus were Indians, including 10 children.

“The bus with 60 Malabar expatriates left Karama on May 6, 2015 and was returning on Friday. The bus accident happened at around 6.30pm on Saturday near Abu Dhabi.

“The bus hit a road divider after the tyre burst near a bridge and overturned several times,” said a social worker involved in taking victims to various hospitals

Two of the deceased have been identified as Mohammed Moulavi and Malappuram Lathif (bus driver). 

Colonel Hamad Nasser Al Balushi Director of External Roads Traffic Department at Abu Dhabi Police attributed the cause of the accident to excess speed  and negligence of driver.
