The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has announced phase two of the traffic diversions on Al Wasl, Al Hadiqa and Al Athar roads, which will be implemented shortly.

New road markings have already been placed on the three road stretches, with Al Hadeqa Street diversion also seeing the removal of the existing boundary wall for Al Safa Park.

The RTA has also stated a new boundary for the community park has been constructed.

The government authority also told Emirates 24|7 that Al Hadiqa Street has witnessed the completion of a series of construction activities, which includes diverting the existing Etisalat, electricity, water and irrigation lines with the execution of new ones.

The RTA further stated it has executed road works for the traffic diversion phase two with street lights and traffic signals.

New infrastructure

Construction on the Dubai Water Canal Project has been split across three phases.

The first includes the construction of bridges across the canal on Sheikh Zayed Road, comprising eight lanes in each direction. The bridges will rise eight metres to allow free navigation of water transport vehicles in the canal.

The Dh2 billion Dubai Canal project will result in Sheikh Zayed Road eventually being elevated by a bridge to allow the extension of Dubai Canal to cross its way to the Arabian Gulf, while cutting across Meydan.

The second phase will see the construction of bridges across the canal, across three lanes on Jumeirah Beach Road and two lanes on Al Wasl Road in each direction.

Additionally, a flyover from Al Wasl Road, linking Al Hadiqa Street in the direction of Sheikh Zayed Road will also take form.

The first few pillars for the impending flyover have already been erected, with workers on the construction zone telling Emirates 24|7 each takes shy of a month to complete.

The surrounding area of Jumeirah 2, the community that lies between Al Wasl Road and Jumeirah Beach Road, is also being dug up simultaneously.

According to an update provided by the RTA earlier, by 2017, this will be the ground for a 6km extension with more than 80,000 square meters of the surrounding area equipped with facilities that meet the requirements of visitors to a new marine destination.

The third and final phase will see the actual construction of the 3.2 km-long canal, with the inclusion of a beach, a marina for boats and the water bus, along with three pedestrian bridges above the canal to link the Jumeirah Beach Walk with Safa Park Walk.

The project will extend Dubai Creek from Business Bay across Sheikh Zayed Road, through Safa Park and across the two main arteries in Jumeirah to reach the Arabian Gulf.
