Dubai close to issuing PPP law

Dubai is close to implementing public private partnership (PPP) law which has been drafted by Roads and Transport Authority (TRA), said Abdul Mohsin Ibrahim Younes, CEO of Strategy and Corporate Governance at the RTA.

“We expect that the law will be approved very soon,” Middle East Utilities reported on its website quoting Younes.

“The law has been drafted by the RTA, but is not specific to transport,” Younes said while speaking at the PPP Middle East Conference in Dubai on Tuesday.

Dubai officials have been talking about promoting private public partnerships in massive projects in different sectors.

The privatisation law will facilitate projects such as the Hassyan independent power and water project (IWPP), which is in the pipeline.

Dewa chief Saeed Mohamed Al Tayer announced late last year the legal framework for PPP projects will be introduced during the first quarter of 2011.
