Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and chairman of the Executive Council, asked health authorities to send a young Iraqi girl suffering from brain cancer for treatment abroad, two days after local newspapers published the teenager’s ordeal.

The Dubai Health Authority said it had been instructed by Sheikh Hamdan to dispatch Ula Abdul Hassan to a specialised medical centre for treatment a few months after she collapsed at school because of the cancer.Ula has been lying at Rashid Hospital and her condition has been deteriorated in the absence of specialised treatment for such cases. This has prompted her father to issue a desperate appeal to help his daughter.

“The Crown Prince has ordered the dispatch of Ula as soon as possible…we are now taking the necessary measures to send her abroad for treatment,” the Authority’s Director Qadi Al Maroushid told 'Emarat Al Youm' newspaper. Her father said Ula was playing with her colleagues at school in early June when she collapsed and became a “crippled and immobile body.”

“She was a top student in the 10th grade when she was afflicted with this disease…we had only prayed that some benevolent people would help us pay the treatment bill for Rashid Hospital…the Crown Prince’s gesture is really much more than we had dreamed of,” he said.
