Dubai Customs launched an awareness campaign to educate public on endangered animals with an aim to combat illegal trade of substances that harm the environment.
The campaign launched in response to implementing the “Green Customs” initiative at Mirdiff City Centre will continue till May 20.
Dubai customs also aims at implementing the Convention CITES on combating trade with endangered species of wild of Fauna and Flora which UAE joined in 1990.
Feryal Tawakul, Executive Director of Community Affairs and Government Partnership Division at Dubai Customs said “imperiled animals under the convention of CITES, including, their skins and taxidermies, as well trees and plants should be disclosed at airports, sea and inland ports by passengers to Dubai Customs inspectors: otherwise, it will be considered illegal attempt of infiltration and shall be punishable in pursuant to the law”
Tawakul said that the Department launched a campaign through the social network site (Facebook and Twitter), in March, 2012.
